Welcome to the Library!

Kawanishi Town Library was founded in 1996.　
The library is open for everyone, and its use is free of charge.

The library collections include books, newspapers, magazines, CDs, videos and cassette tapes. Most of the material is available for home loans.

Kawanishi-cho is known for the birthplace of ‘Kanze school of Noh’, which has originated in the 14th century.

There is a large Noh section in the library. You can find various kinds of Noh materials over 650 such as ‘Utai’ books, Noh play music and videos, books on Noh costume and masks, a newspaper ‘Nohgaku Times’ and a magazine ‘Kanze’, etc.

We also have many books on Zeami who is one of the founders of Kanze school of Noh.

If you wish to borrow materials, you do need a library card.

Any person who lives, works, attends school in Kawanishi-cho is eligible to receive a library card free of charge.

The registration form is available at the library. You can also print it here on the website and fill it out properly. And bring it when you next visit the library.

You are also required to present your valid identification (e.g. driver’s license, student ID card, residence card or health insurance card) with your name and current address on it.

If you lose your library card, please contact the library immediately. 
Also name and address changes should be notified for the library.

A library card is always required when you borrow and renew materials.

 Here is a summary of our lending rules：

・Library loans cost nothing.

・You are responsible for all loans on your card.

・Parents/guardians are responsible for their children’s loans.

・You may borrow up to 8 items at a time, including 1 video.
・The loan period is usually 2 weeks for books and 1 week for a video, but there are exceptions.
・If your items have not been reserved by another borrower and are not overdue, you can extend the loan once for 1 week from the current due date. The maximum loan period is normally 3 weeks. Videos cannot be renewed.

・Loans can be renewed in person at the library. Please bring your library card and items you would like to renew, 3 days into the current loan period. Renewals cannot be made online or by telephone.

・The library card used to borrow the item must be the same card used to renew the item.

・The borrowing period for interlibrary loans is normally 2 weeks or 
the due date given by the lending library. Renewal is not possible.

・You are responsible for returning your loans on time.

・You will lose your right to borrow materials temporarily, if materials are not returned within 14 days over the due date, or if you have received invoice due to overdue loans. But there is no overdue charge.

・You may return materials to the book drop located outside the hall, in the right-hand corner of the main entrance, while the library is closed.  Please note that fragile materials such as CDs or items of interlibrary loans are not available for the book drop.

・If the items have been lost or damaged during the loan period, you must compensate for it in accordance with the Kawanishi Town Library’s conditions of compensation.

The library is not responsible for any damage to the electronic devices, caused by library materials.

Here is the meaning of ‘Reservation’ and ‘Request’ :

●Reservation － When the book which you are looking for is checked out to another borrower.
●Request － When the Kawanishi Town Library does not own the book which you are looking for.

If you will need to reserve or request a book...

・Reservations and requests are free of charge.
・Materials can be reserved at the library counter and you need to fill out the reservation and request form. Reservations and requests cannot be made online or by telephone.

・You may reserve up to 8 items at a time.

・Videos cannot be reserved.

・You can make a request up to 1 book a month. But there are exceptions.

・If you need a book that is not owned by the Kawanishi Town Library, you may submit a request to interlibrary loan, who will search other libraries for the book and you can pick it up at Kawanishi. The borrowing period and other rules depend on the lending library.

・When your item is available, you will receive notification either by telephone or fax. You have 7 days to pick it up.
・The library card used to reserve or request the item must be the same card used to check out the item.

・If you lose your right to borrow materials due to overdue loans, you may not make either reservations or requests. 

・Magazines and audio‐visual materials cannot be requested.

We hold the storytelling for children and young adults 3 times a month at the ‘Storytelling room’ in the library(the second floor).

No registration is required.  Admission is free.

・Before making a photocopy, you need to fill out the application form with your name, address, title of the book and page numbers.  

・Black-and-white copies only.
